Day 2.12 Modeling Elements, Compounds and Mixtures

Students used the above models and a series of POGIL questions to determine the classifications of various substance representations.  This activity addressed most of the misconceptions about the differences between a element, compound, and mixture.  I like how it did so using both pictorial and symbol representations.

I teach high school Chemistry and Physics using Arizona State University's Modeling Method. The school I teach in is Bloomer HS in Northwest Wisconsin. I've been using the Modeling Method for 7 years now and have just recently begun using Standards Based Grading as a way to assess my students learning.
