Day 36 – Whiteboard Gallery

Chemistry 1 – We whiteboarded dimensional dominoes problems from the practice problems packet.  As a variation for sharing whiteboards students went around the room to view the “gallery” of boards.  My room does not have good wall space or even any good perimeter space to display the boards, so they were just left on the tables.  In the pictures you can see the clutter that is created, but it works.

Physics 1 – We are wrapping up constant velocity.  Today we looked at the limitations of the constant velocity model.

Chemistry 2 – I set up a demonstration of an acid/base titration.  We first discussed what a reaction between a strong acid and base would yield (water and a salt).  I then set the titration up as shown.  However, instead of the tradition look of pH vs. volume added.  I projected a graph of [H3O+] M vs. volume added.  Looking at the [H3O+] M is a bit more logical at this point because we understand what molarity is as well as the idea that H3O+ ions are in the solution.  We will analyze this graph tomorrow.  (Look for a full blog post on this process in the near future).
