Day 32 – Using Multiple Models of Motion

Thurs Oct. 17, 2013

Chemistry 1 – Groups needed more time on the Density Lab Challenge.  Some needed to continue to measure, others spent the day trying to find something on the internet other than silly viral videos.

Physics 1 – Groups presented whiteboards that contained multiple models of constant velocity motion.   Mostly this was a review activity, but it gave me a opportunity to ask questions about distance, displacement, speed and velocity.  The new idea that was realized by looking at these boards was that the displacement of an object can be obtained when looking at a v vs. t graph by finding the area between the line and the x-axis.

Chemistry 2 – Groups whiteboarded and presented answers to practice problems involving the use of the acid/base models.

I teach high school Chemistry and Physics using Arizona State University's Modeling Method. The school I teach in is Bloomer HS in Northwest Wisconsin. I've been using the Modeling Method for 7 years now and have just recently begun using Standards Based Grading as a way to assess my students learning.
